It took me 5 years from the first time I started hunting elk to actually harvest one. I had 5 years of blood, sweat and tears, or so it seemed. You've never seen a more happy 23 year old in your life than on the day I took my first spike bull. One valuable lesson I learned from those 5 years was that if you know there are elk in the area you're hunting, then continue hunting that area until you learn their patterns. The places they like to bed, the hills and fields they like to feed on and their watering holes. Once you learn those things hunting elk becomes fun and you're more successful than you're unsuccessful. Don't give up even though you might want to.
