Loading... Please wait...Today I put my name in the hopper (drawing) for a black bear tag here in Utah. The area that I put in for has been my elk hunting honey hole for more than 10 years. I've killed over 10 elk in this area and it's like my second home. As a matter of fact when I die I've asked my wife and family to spread my ashes in this area. Yeah, I know I can't help but get sentimental when I talk about this particular area.
Anyway to the point. Not only is it a great area to hunt elk but there happens to be a huge population of bears in the area. This area is very wild compared to other places that I have hunted or even the place that I hunt mule deer.
I've spotted several bears in this area over the years out in the open including a blond and cinnamon colored bear. Both in different areas and in different years. I've also seen countless tracks and scat over the years.
Last year I was hunting in an area not too far from the area I always hunt and accidentally bumped into a wild berry patch. There were tracks and scat as far as the eye could see. Not too mention two different sets of cub tracks along side mamma's tracks.
I'll find out in a few weeks if I will be hunting down there this year or not. Let's all say a little prayer to the hunting God in hopes that I draw.
Be safe and good hunting my friends.
